MJ/ Variety Article on The Immortal World Tour.
The Immortal World Tour is Cirque’s third venture into merging pop icons with their other-worldly acrobatics. The Beatles Love and Viva Elvis remain nightly sell outs at their anchored Las Vegas theaters; but this is the first attempt to take a pop music-oriented show on tour.
“Michael will always be present during the show through video and new technology, especially holographic technology,” says King. “Most importantly, because it is a music-driven show, we’re working with Michael’s catalog. Michael is really the narrator, his voice will always be there.”
The set will be carried by 30 tractor-trailers, and was designed by Mark Fisher, whose clients have included Pink Floyd and David Bowie.
As in Jackson’s live performances, the energy will come from the dancing. “The iconic choreography of Michael Jackson is always referenced,” says King, who worked with Jackson for nearly two years as a dancer and choreographer. “What is great about the magic of Cirque, as you know, is that his dancing can now be imagined in a more magical way, that not even Michael could have envisioned. We can take the moonwalk and now imagine it, upside down, on the ceiling in the arena!”
With a development budget north of $50 million, the production touts 65 Jackson songs, including standard arrangements, remixes and mash-ups; Jackson’s choreography; and Cirque’s trademark acrobatics.
“It will be unlike any other rock show that you may have seen before,” boasts King, who began the project in March 2010. “It is a hybrid where we are taking the idea of a rock show and a Cirque show and taking it on the road.”

Billboard Poll – Who Had the Best 90s Video? – VOTE!
With the launch of MTV on Aug. 1, 1981, video took on a new role in the music world — and as the first song played on the cable network (The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star”) declared, video did, indeed, kill the radio star.
These days, music videos are standard practice for artists both big and small, and needless to say, the scale of and technology behind these clips has escalated over the years. And far from being the latest new thing, by the ’90s the music video was a firmly entrenched part of the music world. From grunge to gangsta rap to bubblegum pop, some of the most unforgettable videos ever made came from the format’s second decade. Who could forget a teenage Britney Spears dancing in her schoolgirl miniskirt in the “Baby One More Time” clip or Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain rocking out amongst the anarchy cheerleaders in a creepy pep rally?
Now, as we celebrate 30 years of music video television, we invite you to revisit — and vote on — each decade’s best. Billboard.com editors filled out our poll with a handful of our favorites from the 1990s, but use the write-in option below to vote from other clips released from Jan. 1, 1990 to Dec. 31, 1999. The poll will remain open all week, and be sure to come back next week to vote in our ’00s music video poll. We’ll reveal readers’ top picks for each decade after three weeks of polls.
The video they have included in the poll is Scream featuring Janet Jackson. Be sure to vote as many times as possible, let’s show our L.O.V.E for Michael.
Thank you to Brianna from Billboard for informing us about this!
Michael Jackson and Beyoncé have topped a list of the most iconic dance moments.
Michael Jackson and Beyoncé have topped a list of the most iconic dance moments as Disney Channel unveils its new dance contest.
Got To Dance winner Akai Osei has teamed up with Disney Channel to launch Shake It Up: Dance, Dance, an online dance contest which will give the winner a unique opportunity to have their dance aired on the channel, as well as a holiday to LA and a once in a lifetime dance master class with Akai.
The online dance contest is inspired by the channel’s smash hit comedy series Shake It Up, starring Bella Thorne as CeCe Jones and Zendaya Coleman as Raquel “Rocky” Blue, which viewers can watch every day on Disney Channel.
To coincide with the contest, a survey of young people has unveiled that the most iconic dance moments in history include Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal, High School Musical’s We’re All in This Together and Beyonce’s Single Ladies.
Michael Jackson is crowned ‘king of dance’, with 32% claiming him as their dance idol. JLS followed with 19% then Zac Efron, star of Disney’s High School Musical and Justin Timberlake.
Akai Osei commented: “I am hoping that my passion for dance will inspire other young people to enter Disney Channel’s Shake It Up: Dance, Dance competition no matter what their dance experience – it’s all about enjoying yourself and having fun!”
To enter the contest visit www.disneychannel.co.uk/dancedance and upload your clip until the August 31 deadline. The winner will be voted for from a shortlist of 10 finalists.

Estate Message to Fans.
Fans have asked the Estate to elaborate on its decision to respond to some of LaToya Jackson’s comments as she promoted her new book, as well as its decision not to respond formally to a false and erroneous report out of Australia that allegedly quoted Aaron Carter as saying he and Michael used drugs together.
If someone severely misrepresents the facts surrounding Michael’s Estate and makes serious, reckless and false accusations that go unanswered, it demeans and maligns Michael’s memory and legacy, and may also potentially hurt the business of the Estate, thereby affecting the future earnings that benefit Michael’s beneficiaries.
When a tabloid report like the Aaron Carter story occurs, involving claims made by people who knew Michael during his life, the Estate always must ask the same questions: how credible is the source; can it be verified; and would issuing a public response only put an unwarranted spotlight on a questionable, negative story about Michael the Estate has no desire to publicize?
In this case, the Executors knew the account came from a marginal celebrity gossip site, and was conducted by a journalist with a long history of controversy involving Michael and his family. Furthermore, the Executors also knew Aaron Carter had previously denied the allegations to People magazine, something that was noted to any media who asked the Estate about the report. In the end, the Estate believes the story took care of itself: Aaron Carter’s decision to refute it himself was the best solution, in that it called the most attention possible to the credibility of this story. Any benefit from the Estate calling out irresponsible media reportage could then possibly be outweighed by the detriment of even more media spotlight on a bogus story.
As for LaToya Jackson, the Estate felt compelled to respond to irresponsible and untruthful statements that were defamatory, and which grossly misrepresented facts that are in the public court record. LaToya was going on many television shows, repeating some of the same bogus info, and the Estate felt it important to try and contain any additional/future damage beyond that which had already been done, and, sadly, which had already started to be repeated as fact by other media to promote their sites or sell their news reports.
It’s probably an impossible task to make decisions that everyone likes. Some will agree, some will disagree, but in the end, it is the ultimate responsibility of the Co-Executors to fulfill their obligations per Michael’s wishes by doing what they think best in each and every instance, to protect, preserve, and grow Michael’s legacy and memory for Michael and his fans, and to protect, preserve and grow the Estate for its beneficiaries.
